Sharpening Rod - Pin Series (X02O)

4.0 Stars (1 reviews)

A diamond-grit honing rod for keeping your kitchen knives true between sharpenings. The 228mm working surface is diamond-coated over a hard steel core, so it stays aggressive enough to realign the edge on hard 60+ HRC and Damascus blades. Honing is not sharpening — it straightens the edge you already have, a few passes a side, so your knife keeps biting day to day. Full-tang olive wood handle, riveted in stainless, made in Yangjiang.

DESCRIPTION

Your Pin Series knives aren't dull. They're crooked. After a week of regular cutting, the microscopic edge folds over and the blade starts pushing through food instead of slicing it clean. This diamond-coated honing rod realigns that edge in two minutes, without grinding away steel the way a whetstone does. Run it before dinner, not after the damage is done.

Honing, Not Sharpening

There's a difference worth knowing. Sharpening grinds away steel to form a new edge. Honing straightens the edge you already have. The fine diamond surface catches the folded-over edge and pushes it back into line with a few strokes per side. Do it every few days and the blade stays sharp between stone sessions, rather than slowly degrading until it won't bite through a tomato skin. Works on all knives in the Pin Series, and on any other kitchen knife in a similar hardness bracket.

Realign the edge, not reshape it

Pin Series · X02O

Realign the edge, not reshape it

Every knife edge rolls slightly with use. A honing rod pushes it back straight in seconds — this is what keeps a sharp knife feeling sharp between proper sharpenings. The X02O rod carries a diamond-grit working surface over a hard steel core, so unlike a plain steel it has the bite to true hard 60+ HRC and Damascus edges, not just soft Western blades.

Bite that suits hard steel

Why Diamond

Bite that suits hard steel

Smooth and ceramic rods skate over modern hard kitchen knives. The diamond grit on this rod actually grips the steel, so a handful of light passes per side genuinely realigns the edge. Suitable for all kitchen knives, including Damascus and hard 60+ HRC blades.

  • Diamond-grit surface::228mm working length::For 60+ HRC & Damascus::362mm overall

A few passes, both sides

How To Hone

A few passes, both sides

Hold the rod tip-down on the bench or out in front of you. Lay the blade near the handle against the top of the rod at a shallow angle, then draw it down and toward you so the whole edge travels from heel to tip. Three to five light passes per side, alternating, is enough — let the rod do the work, no pressure. Hone little and often. When honing no longer brings the edge back, it is time to sharpen on a stone.

Hand wash, oil the wood

Care

Hand wash, oil the wood

Hand wash and dry the rod after use — not dishwasher safe. The olive wood handle is natural and benefits from an occasional wipe of food-safe oil to stop it drying out. Wipe the rod clean of swarf so the diamond surface keeps its bite. Covered by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects via xinzuo.com.au.

FAQs

Is honing the same as sharpening?

No. Honing realigns an edge that has rolled slightly during use, taking only seconds. Sharpening removes metal to form a new edge, on a whetstone. Hone often to keep a knife sharp; sharpen occasionally when honing no longer helps.

Will this work on my hard Japanese-style or Damascus knives?

Yes. The diamond-grit surface is made to bite into hard steel, so it suits all kitchen knives including Damascus and hard 60+ HRC blades — where a plain smooth steel would just skate.

How long is the rod?

The working rod is 228mm and the tool is 362mm overall including the handle, giving you room to hone full-length chef's knife edges.

How often should I use it?

A few light passes per side before or after a cooking session. Honing little and often keeps the edge true and stretches out the time between full sharpenings.

What is the handle made of?

Natural olive wood, full-tang and set with stainless steel rivets. Each handle has its own grain.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No. Hand wash and dry it, and give the olive wood an occasional wipe of food-safe oil to keep it from drying out.

Does it come ready to give as a gift?

Yes. It ships in a premium gift box.
