This is not the hardest steel Xinzuo makes — and that is the point. At this hardness it resists chipping and rolls rather than cracks under everyday abuse, takes a fast edge, and is highly corrosion resistant. A practical steel for a knife that lives on the bench, not in a display case.

No. The Yu Series is a single-steel German 1.4116 blade with a brushed satin finish — not a layered Damascus blade. It is the practical workhorse end of the Xinzuo range, priced and built to be used hard.

Where is it made?

In Yangjiang, China — the centre of the world's knife industry. Xinzuo uses German 1.4116 steel, vacuum heat treatment and cryogenic deep-freezing for consistent quality.

How sharp is it out of the box?

It ships with a 15 degree per side double-bevel edge, sharper than the typical 20 degree-plus factory grind on supermarket knives, so it cuts cleanly from the first use.

Will it hold its edge?

At 56-58 HRC, 1.4116 holds a solid working edge for daily cooking and is quick to refresh on a honing steel or whetstone. It favours toughness and easy maintenance over extreme hardness.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No. Hand wash and dry it — the dishwasher is not recommended and will dull the edge and damage the ebony wood handle.
